Groups provide a mechanism to group a set of related layers together.
In the Algorithm Tree, enable grouping from the Algorithm item at the top of the tree. Right-click and select the “Start grouping layers” menu item. A group will be added to the algorithm and it will contain all layers.
In the Group property page, you can change the name of the group and enable or disable the group. When you disable a group, all layers in the group will be disabled and not rendered. When you enable a group, all layers in the group that are enabled will be rendered.
Add a new group from the Algorithm item at the top of the tree. Right-click and select the “Add a new group” menu item. Delete a group by right-clicking on the Group item in the Algorithm Tree and selecting the “Delete group (and layers)” menu item. This will also delete all of the layers that are within the group.
If there are multiple groups in the algorithm, you can move groups up and down. Right-click on the group item in the Algorithm Tree and select the “Move group up” or “Move group down” menu items. You can also select the group and hit the equivalent buttons on the main dialog. When you move a group all of the layers in the group move with it. Moving a group will change the layer rendering order. Layers are rendered in iorder from the bottom of the tree to the top of the tree.
There are multiple ways to add new layers to a group. You can right-click on the group item in the Algorithm Tree and select the “Add Layer” menu item. You can achieve the same outcome by selecting the group item in the tree and hitting the “Add Layer” menu button on the main dialog. When you drag & drop a raster onto the algorithm, you can target a particular group as the destination by selecting it in the Algorithm Tree first. Otherwise, the new layer will be added to the topmost group.
You can move layers up and down within a group (layers at the top of the order render on top of layers at the bottom). Select the layer item in the Algorithm Tree. Right-click and select the “Move layer down” or “Move layer up” menu items. You can achieve the same outcome by selecting the layer in the tree and hitting the “Move up and “Move down” buttons on the main dialog. You can also move layers between groups. Select the layer item in the Algorithm Tree. Right-click and select the “Move layer up a group” or “Move layer down a group” menu items.
You can copy properties of a layer or component to other layers in the group (or in the algorithm). Select the layer or component in the Algorithm Tree then right-click to display the context menu for that item. You can copy the properties to all layers of the same type in the algorithm, or to all layers in the algorithm. If you are grouping then you can also copy properties to all layers of the same type in the group, or all layers in the group. This does not copy all the layer or component properties. What properties are copied is determined by what property page you have selected. For example, select the “Shadow” page to copy all of the hill-shading properties of the Intensity component to the Intensity component in other layers. The raster source, field, band, and time range properties of a component are not copied unless the destination component does not contain a defined raster source.
